Architectural finishing film

How much does architectural film cost?

Short answer

Cost is driven by area, edge detail and access rather than by material alone. Published installed rates for architectural finishing film are usually quoted per square foot and sit far below the cost of removing and replacing the same surface, but the only reliable number comes from a survey of the actual substrate.

We deliberately do not publish a single rate, because it would be misleading. Two doors of the same size can differ by a factor of two in labour once you account for the number of returns to wrap, whether hardware has to come off, whether the leaf can be worked on in place, and whether the building allows daytime work.

The variables that actually move the price are area, the number of edges and cut-outs, the substrate condition and preparation required, access and working hours, and the finish selected. High-gloss and metallic finishes are less forgiving to install than matte wood grains and take longer.

Published industry comparisons position film well below the cost of full replacement, though the figures quoted in trade coverage vary considerably and are often produced in a promotional context. Use them for direction, not for budgeting.

Our approach is to survey, list the surfaces with dimensions, and quote line by line so you can see what each element costs and drop anything that is not worth doing.

What drives the price

  • Total area, and how it is divided across separate panels
  • Number of edges, returns and cut-outs to be wrapped
  • Substrate condition and the preparation it requires
  • Access: occupied floors, elevator downtime, night work
  • Finish selected, since gloss and metallic finishes are slower to install
  • Volume, since repeat details across many doors or cabs price better

Send us a photo and a rough surface list and we will tell you quickly whether film is in the right budget range before anyone spends time on a survey.
